Address by the Ambassador of Italy in Japan, Gianluigi Benedetti on the occasion of the welcome reception of the Azimut Asian Rendez-vous (Tokyo, May 23, 2025).

Dear Giovanna Vitelli, President of Azimut Benetti, Ladies and Gentlemen, good evening and welcome to the Residence of the Ambassador of Italy to Japan. My wife Sabina and I are very pleased to host the 2025 Azimut Asian Rendez-vous.

This garden is a Japanese historical and cultural landmark created by the Matsudaira daimyo in the early XVII Century and it is very famous for being the gardens where during the Edo period, ten of the 47 Akoroshi committed the extreme sacrifice to honor their Lord.

In the Meiji period, this garden was the residence of the illustrious statesman Matsukata Masayoshi, who preserved it for 50 years. Since 1930, it is the Embassy of Italy to Japan and has been visited by His Majesty the Showa Emperor, four Presidents of the Italian Republic, several Japanese Prime Ministers and Ministers, as well as many distinguished Italian and Japanese guests.

Tonight, this beautiful garden and the Residence who is a “house-museum” of the mid-sixties are the perfect setting to celebrate Azimut: an outstanding Italian company that is a global leader in luxury yacht building thanks to the capability to combine the elegance, artisanship and specialized expertise of Italy’s nautical tradition with cutting-edge engineering.

At the heart of Azimut’s success, and thanks to the leadership and passion of Giovanna, lays its dedication to research, innovation, and sustainability. This spirit of innovation, together with collaborations with renowned architects and iconic Italian design brands, has shaped the unique identity of Azimut’s yachts: elegant, distinctive, and instantly recognizable at sea, around the world.

These qualities, so emblematic of the Made in Italy, are particularly appreciated in Japan, a country with a sophisticated sensibility for quality and beauty, a taste that involves a deep understanding of craftsmanship, materials, technology and design.

For all these reasons and with nautical tourism on the rise here in Japan, we are delighted that Azimut has chosen to organize its “Asian Rendez-Vous” in Tokyo at the Yasuda Shipyard, showcasing some of its most stunning yachts that highlight the very essence of Italian excellence. I am sure that this event will contribute to the continuous success of Azimut in Japan.

Tonight, we are pleased to celebrate this event with a special dinner prepared by a worldwide famous Chef, which will be served in an Italian atmosphere with a musical performance by Italian “Maestro” that came from Italy on this occasion.

I wish all of you a wonderful evening.
